Welcome to Amaranth Counselling
Treating Depression and Anxiety. Counselling, Psychotherapy and EMDR in Edinburgh and East Lothian.
My name is Mary O'Neill and I run a private counselling service; Amaranth Counselling. I'm based in Cockenzie in East Lothian where I offer individual and couple counselling.
I am an experienced counsellor, accredited by my professional body the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I believe that counselling is about personal empowerment; when we understand our situation and our underlying motives then we are able to make healthy change in our lives instead of lurching from crisis to crisis. When you work with me it is my hope and intention that you will learn about yourself and with that insight and understanding you will develop that capacity for resilience to cope with the challenges that life may bring.
I am convinced that counselling is an effective intervention for depression, anxiety and all sorts of other issues that might arise in life and affect our mental wellbeing.
I have extensive experience working with clients who are exposed to a stressful workplace environment, be it a managing a heavy workload or dealing with workplace conflict including workplace bullying.
My previous career in biology research and teaching has given me a good grounding in human physiology and I bring this knowledge to my treatment of anxiety, trauma and depression.
I also offer Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing or EMDR, a National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) endorsed treatment for trauma and abuse particularly post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Here are some of the issues I can help you resolve at Amaranth Counselling:
- Relationship Difficulties
- Stress in the workplace
- Workplace Bullying
- Anger Management
- Anxiety and Phobia
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Childhood Abuse (physical, sexual and emotional)
In any of these circumstances I provide a safe and non-judgmental environment where you can talk to me and I will help you understand and make sense of the situation and help you find a resolution.
It is also possible to make use of telephone counselling and (video) counselling via Skype. In these situations, if it is geographically possible, I prefer to meet with the client for the first and last sessions for a check-in and a review.
